
12-year-old girl dies a week after deadly Thornton motorcycle crash
DENVER (KDVR) -- The 12-year-old girl who was a passenger on a motorcycle involved in a deadly crash on April 15 has died, Thornton police said in an update Thursday. The man who was riding the motorcycle with the girl died the night of the crash, which happened at about 8:15 p.m. after a 17-year-old driving a BMW sedan hit a Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling east on Thornton Parkway near Welby Road. Police had said the girl was in critical condition after the crash. "Our hearts are with her family, friends, and all who are grieving this unimaginable loss," police said in a Thursday press release. "Thornton Police investigators continue to work diligently to gather all the facts and evidence in this case. We are committed to presenting the strongest possible case to the District Attorney’s Office as we pursue justice for both victims and their family." The BMW driver stayed at the scene and was arrested on a count of careless driving causing death, but was released pending further investigation, police said at the time.
