10-year-old boy killed in crash near Oconomowoc

A 10-year-old boy was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 67 at McMahon Road near Oconomowoc Wednesday morning that involved a 34-year-old SUV driver and a 16-year-old driver. The crash occurred around 7 a.m. when the SUV slammed into the back of the boy's car as the 16-year-old waited to turn left onto McMahon Road.Flowers now mark the spot where the young boy died. First responders arrived at the scene to find wreckage and feared the worst. "Two-vehicle accident, SUV versus a smaller white vehicle. There is a child laying face-down in a driveway, possibly another that may have been ejected," came the emergency broadcast from dispatchers. "Devastating. Very, very devastating," Laurene Gunderson said. She lives in the house closest to the crash scene. "I was on the phone with my sister. And I heard a loud crash. And then I seen that the ambulance and the fire department was all down here, and the cops. And I wanted to take a peek. I took a peek and I seen ambulance trying to revive ... revive somebody," Gunderson said.Despite efforts to save him, the 10-year-old could not be revived. The boy was in the back seat before he was possibly ejected. Gunderson, who has lived in the area for 35 years, said, "My prayers go out to the family. So, yeah. It's just devastating when you hear it about a little boy."The 16-year-old driver and another passenger in the front seat were transported to a hospital, along with the 34-year-old SUV driver.
