1 person dead, 6 people injured in multiple-vehicle accident on H-1 freeway
A tragic multi-car collision on the H-1 Freeway near the Kaamilo Overpass resulted in the death of a woman. Following the incident, city officials closed the freeway and redirected all traffic to the Waimalu off-ramp. The roadway was reopened a few hours later. Emergency responders from Honolulu EMS and HPD were at the scene of the crash where a 56-year-old female driver rear-ended a pickup truck carrying six passengers. The collision caused a 27-year-old female passenger, who was in the back of the truck, to be thrown onto the road and subsequently pronounced dead. Four others, including a 3-year-old boy, a 23-year-old woman, a 28-year-old man, and a 56-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries and were admitted to the hospital. Two men, ages 27 and 29, are reported to be in stable condition. The investigation into the incident is ongoing. This marks the fifth traffic fatality on Oahu this year, a decrease from the six recorded by this time last year.
