1 killed after car goes off I-71 overpass, crashes onto roadway
DEERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) — A California man was killed and his passenger critically injured after a vehicle launched off Interstate 71 and crashed onto Western Row Road early Thursday, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Troopers said a Kia K4 was traveling north on I-71 when it left the left side of the highway and struck a concrete bridge overpass. The vehicle then became airborne, flying between the northbound and southbound bridge overpasses before striking a utility pole and landing on Western Row Road below. The driver, Isaias Zepeda, 25, of San Bernardino, California, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, also from California, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Debris from the crash caused a second collision on I-71, but troopers said no injuries were reported in that incident. Investigators have not determined what caused the driver to lose control.
