1 fatality, 4 injured in Phoenix light rail collision

Early Tuesday morning, a collision between a pickup truck and a light rail train resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries. The incident occurred at approximately 5 a.m. on Dec. 30 at the intersection of Indian School Road and Central Avenue. The pickup truck collided with the light rail train, causing it to derail. One person was declared dead at the scene, and four others were hospitalized, with two in critical condition and two sustaining minor injuries. Additionally, two individuals declined hospital transport after being assessed at the site of the accident. Phoenix Fire Department and Police are investigating the cause of the crash. Due to the ongoing investigation, northbound and southbound train services between Camelback Road/Central Avenue and Thomas Road/Central Avenue stations are temporarily disrupted. Valley Metro is providing shuttle buses to ensure the continuity of service while crews work on restoring normal operations. The identity of the deceased individual has not been disclosed.
