Youth killed in Napa County crash, driver believed to be DUI, CHP reports

A tragic incident occurred on Friday afternoon in Napa County resulting in the death of a young person and the arrest of a driver suspected of being under the influence. The California Highway Patrol reported that a head-on collision involving a 2013 Nissan Sentra and a 2010 Toyota Corolla took place around 4:40 p.m. on Chiles Pope Valley Road near Barnett Road in the Pope Valley area. The Corolla was driven by Aaron Kennedy Alvarez, who had a juvenile passenger with him. Sadly, the juvenile passed away at the scene, although their identity has not yet been disclosed. Alvarez suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital, where he was arrested on suspicion of DUI. The driver of the Sentra sustained minor injuries and was also hospitalized. To facilitate the investigation, Chiles Pope Valley Road was closed for over two hours.
