Young driver in Lufkin police chase results in woman's death, charges pending

An update from Leverett's Chapel ISD has confirmed that Wells ISD Superintendent Friday Wright's wife, Morgan, tragically lost her life in a car accident in downtown Lufkin on Monday. Morgan, a Lufkin ISD staff member and a mother of two, was involved in the collision. The Lufkin Police Department stated that charges are pending for the 16-year-old minor involved in the incident. The accident occurred following a vehicle chase involving a stolen Chevrolet truck driven by the minor. The pursuit led to a collision with a Ford Explorer at the intersection of Third Street and Frank Street. The minor was taken to a local hospital and released, while the condition of the 40-year-old woman driving the Ford Explorer is currently unknown. As a result of the crash, Third Street north to Groesbeck Street will be closed until the traffic light pole is replaced by TxDOT.
