Young child dies, woman charged after weekend Adams County crash

ADAMS COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) - A young child has died, and one person has been charged, after a weekend crash in Adams County. Adams County Coroner Francis Dutrow says a 3-year-old girl died in Reading Township on Saturday after a crash on East Berlin Road. Pennsylvania State Police say around 7:18 a.m., Claudia Ramos-Villeda, 19, was driving a Nissan Sentra south on Stoney Point Road when she failed to stop at a stop sign at the East Berlin Road intersection. The Nissan was struck by a Ram 1500 and overturned, coming to rest in a yard. Dutrow says the child was a backseat passenger and died from multiple blunt force trauma. State Police say the child was not restrained in a car seat and was being held by a backseat passenger during the crash. State Police say Ramos-Villeda does not have a driver's license and was identified by a Republic of Honduras identification card. She was taken to WellSpan York Hospital with serious injuries. The Ram driver and three passengers were also taken to the hospital with injuries. Ramos-Villeda, of Abbottstown, has been charged with homicide by vehicle, multiple counts of aggravated assault by vehicle, and multiple traffic offenses. Dutrow said that due to the child's age, their identity would not be released by his office. The manner of death was ruled an accident.
