Ybor crash suspect to stay in custody for trial

Silas Kenneth Sampson, 22, will remain in jail as he awaits trial for a fatal crash in Ybor City that claimed the lives of four individuals and left over a dozen others injured outside Bradley’s on 7th Avenue. A judge's ruling on Thursday ordered Sampson to be held without bond on four counts of vehicular homicide. In a recent motion for pretrial detention, it was mentioned that Florida Highway Patrol troopers first observed Sampson driving a silver Toyota Camry speeding on I-275, before he led them on a brief chase and ultimately caused the tragic crash. The motion highlighted that Sampson is considered a danger to the community and stated that there are no conditions for his release that could ensure public safety. Sampson allegedly displayed signs of impairment during the incident and made incriminating statements to officers after the crash. Four victims were identified as Lisa Johnson, Marlon Collins, Sherman Jones, and Kristina Richards, with several others sustaining injuries in the collision.
