Woman struck, killed by trash truck in south city
ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating after an adult woman was struck and killed by a trash collection truck Tuesday morning. SLMPD Spokesperson Mitch McCoy says that a third-party utility crew working near the 4600 block of S. Broadway when they called security due to a woman's "erratic behavior." "She was dancing, was clearly impaired---we don't know how, but was clearly impaired," McCoy said. "The behavior she was showing was not normal." As the utility crew was awaiting security, a city trash collection truck was driving its normal route and while backing up in the alley, the truck hit the woman just after 8:45 a.m. McCoy said it is believed that the driver was unaware he hit someone until the utility crew notified him. Sean Hadley with the City Streets Department added that the driver stayed at the scene and is fully cooperating with the investigation. "He is in shock, clearly, and it's a tragedy that this happened," Hadley said. The identity of the victim was not immediately released. This is a developing story. More will be posted as it comes into the FOX 2 newsroom.
