Woman struck, killed by car on Glenwood Ave in north Raleigh, police say

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Police are investigating the circumstances around a woman being hit by a car in northwest Raleigh. An alert from the North Carolina Department of Transportation notified drivers around 4 a.m Sunday that all eastbound lanes were closed on U.S. Highway 70 near Westborough Road. According to the Raleigh Police Department, officers responded to a crash involving a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation by police, officers said, a 2017 BMW 320 sedan was traveling south on Glenwood Avenue when a woman walking in a southbound lane was hit by the BMW. A spokesperson from the police told CBS 17 that she died as a result of the crash after being taken to the hospital. The identity of the woman fatally struck is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. "Impairment is not suspected in this incident," the police said in a news release later Sunday morning. "The driver has been cooperative. No charges have been filed at this time." More into the cause behind the collision is still under investigation by the police. NCDOT said Glenwood Avenue reopened around 7:30 a.m. Sunday.
