Woman punished for deadly accident that took the lives of doctor from Dearborn and mother of 3

A 26-year-old woman from Taylor has been sentenced to six to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in a high-speed crash that resulted in the death of a Dearborn mother and physician last summer. Felecia Lazo was driving at 117 mph in a 35 mph zone when she ran a red light at Michigan Avenue and Nowlin Street in Dearborn, colliding with the car driven by 33-year-old Ghada Mustapha. Emergency responders declared Mustapha dead at the scene. During the sentencing, Lazo offered a tearful apology to the victim's family, expressing remorse for their loss. As part of a plea deal, a charge of reckless driving causing death was dropped. Family members of the victim expressed dissatisfaction with the sentence, feeling it was too lenient considering the severity of the crash. Ghada Mustapha, a physician and valued member of the Dearborn community, is survived by her husband and three children under the age of 5. Friends and family fondly remember Mustapha for her intelligence, kindness, and willingness to assist others. Despite their disappointment in the sentence, Mustapha's family hopes to begin the healing process now that the legal proceedings have concluded.
