Woman punished for crash in eastern MN that killed child, hurt 5
A 36-year-old woman from Coon Rapids, Minnesota, has received a four-year prison sentence, with credit for time already served, for a head-on collision in Chisago County that resulted in the death of a 4-year-old child and injuries to five others. The incident, which took place on Rush Lake Trail in Nessel Township, involved the woman's Chevrolet Cruze crossing the center line and colliding with a Chrysler Pacifica. The woman pleaded guilty to criminal vehicular homicide and criminal vehicular operation charges. Law enforcement officers suspected drug use due to the woman's behavior at the scene, and a subsequent search of her car revealed meth paraphernalia. The woman had admitted to using meth and marijuana recently. She will spend at least two-thirds of her sentence behind bars.
