
Woman hit by date's car in South Houston; driver crashes nearby, say police
Houston police are currently looking into a hit-and-run incident that occurred early on a Thursday morning, which left a woman injured. The incident took place at the intersection of Dennis Street and Nagle Street in Houston. Police and fire department officials responded to reports of a pedestrian collision around 3 a.m. The injured woman, who suffered head injuries, was treated at the scene by paramedics and then transported to a nearby trauma center. In a related incident, police received another call about a crash involving a 2022 Mercedes six blocks away near Elgin and Delano Street. The driver of the Mercedes reportedly crashed through the school campus and fled the scene on foot. Authorities later apprehended the driver near Isabella Street. The identities of the woman and the driver have not been disclosed. According to the Houston Police Department, the woman and the man involved in the incident had been on a dinner date. The man, who was driving, dropped off the woman at Dennis and Nagle Streets. Allegedly, as she went to hug him goodbye, she was struck by his vehicle. The driver claimed that he was attempting to evade a robbery attempt when the woman was hit. The man stated that someone tried to rob him by jumping into his car through an open window and brandishing a gun. The driver asserted that he accidentally hit the woman as he tried to shake off the would-be robber. Subsequently, he crashed into a gate at Ryan Middle School and fled the scene. He was later found by police and taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing, and the woman has chosen not to press charges against the driver as authorities continue to look into his explanation for the events that transpired.
