Woman from Oregon County faces charges for unintentional manslaughter in deadly collision

An Oregon County woman, Joy Kay Barton of Alton, has been charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter following a tragic crash on September 20, 2024. The incident occurred on U.S. Highway 160 near Oregon County Road 335 when Barton's 2022 Ford Escape collided with a 2013 Kubota RTV, resulting in a fatality. Eye witnesses reported that the Kubota had its flashing yellow light on, and they observed the SUV driven by Barton not slowing down to avoid the collision. Barton claimed that she had momentarily looked away before noticing the Kubota just a short distance in front of her. After a series of field sobriety tests, Barton was taken into custody for suspected driving while impaired and was later released. She is currently set to appear in court on September 10, 2025.
