Woman from Milwaukee faces charges in deadly crash while evading police
Cera Wilkerson, a 22-year-old woman from Milwaukee, has been charged with fleeing from police and second-degree reckless homicide following a crash that resulted in the death of an innocent driver on Tuesday night. Authorities allege that Wilkerson was driving a black Chevy that was speeding down Humboldt Boulevard and collided with a Mitsubishi on Brady Street, leading to the tragic loss of the Mitsubishi driver. The victim, El Moctar Sidaya, who was just 28 years old and driving for Lyft that night, had recently started fresh in Milwaukee and had enrolled in an English Second Language school just before the accident. His uncle, Brahim Minih, shared how Sidaya was looking forward to starting classes in early August. Sidaya's passenger, Marquis Ward, was seriously injured in the crash but is recovering in the hospital. The charges against Wilkerson state that her vehicle was traveling at 60 mph in a 25 mph zone moments before the collision. Wilkerson told investigators she did not stop for police due to anxiety and past encounters with law enforcement. Minih voiced his desire for stricter laws and harsher punishments for reckless drivers in light of this tragedy.
