Woman from Fremont given punishment for deadly hit-and-run accident

A Fremont woman has been sentenced for a deadly hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a 27-year-old man in September 2022. Marisa Utterback received a conviction for motor vehicle homicide in the case involving Yashua Martinez. As part of her sentence, Utterback will serve probation and spend time in jail. She is set to spend three days in prison beginning June 6 and then one day in jail each year for three years on the anniversary of the crash — Sept. 18. Additionally, she was given 30 months of intense supervised probation, and her license will be revoked for one year. There is a possibility of Utterback serving an extra 360 days if deemed necessary by the judge during her probation period. Authorities found Martinez near Morningside Road after construction crews reported an incident. Utterback stated in a previous court appearance that she believed she had hit a deer before leaving the scene. A hearing to review the case further is scheduled for Dec. 1.
