Woman dies in hospital after late-night crash in Chesterfield
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A woman is dead after she was hit by a car in Chesterfield County late Tuesday night. A witness says they watched her step off a bus moments before the crash. At about 9:42 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, officers with the Chesterfield County Police Department were called to the 7300 block of Midlothian Turnpike for report of a crash involving a pedestrian. According to police, a gray 2018 Nissan Sentra was moving west on Midlothian Turnpike when it hit a pedestrian. That pedestrian, an unidentified woman, was taken to a local hospital, where she later died. The pedestrian's identity is being withheld at this time until her loved ones can be notified. The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene and is cooperating with police. 8News went down to the scene and spoke to someone who said they witnessed the crash. They claimed that the woman had just stepped off a Greater Richmond Transit Authority (GRTC) bus at a stop and started to cross the street when she was hit. Police have not confirmed any of these details at this time. However, a spokesperson told 8News that the GRTC bus parked at the scene was not involved in the crash. As of the time of reporting, the westbound side of Midlothian Turnpike between Stonebridge Plaza Avenue and Granite Spring Road is shut down as first responders continue to investigate. Police said it will likely reopen by 1 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15. If you know anything about this incident, you're asked to contact the Chesterfield County Police Department at 804-748-1251.
