
Woman dead, 2 people injured after vehicle crashes into Lewiston home, police say
A Maine woman is dead after a vehicle crashed into a Lewiston home, a collision that left two other people injured, according to police.The Lewiston Police Department said officers responded to a report of a serious crash at 816 Webster St. shortly after 4:15 a.m. Wednesday. The officers found a 2017 BMW had driven into a single-family home at the Webster Street address.Police said several people were trapped inside the vehicle and needed to be removed by first responders.Natasha Thoits, 28, of Lewiston, was pronounced dead at the scene after she was removed from the vehicle. Police said Thoits was a passenger in the vehicle.Blaze Small, 25, also of Lewiston, was identified by police as the driver of the vehicle. Small suffered minor injuries in the crash.Police said another passenger, who was not identified, was transported to Central Maine Medical Center to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.According to police, a fourth person who was in the vehicle fled the crash scene on foot before officers arrived.The Lewiston Police Department's Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash.Investigators said the preliminary findings indicate both speed and impairment were contributing factors in the crash.Police said further updates about the crash will be provided as the investigation continues.Anyone who has information about the person who fled the crash scene, who was described as a male, is being asked by police to email Detective Aaron Schmitz at [email protected].
