Woman charged with vehicular homicide in fatal Seminole County crash nearly 1 year later

A Geneva woman is facing multiple charges nearly a year after a crash that killed a man and injured several others in Seminole County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.Amanda Babcock, 37, was arrested on Thursday and charged with vehicular homicide, two counts of reckless driving with damage to person, and one count of reckless driving causing serious injury. The crash happened on June 7, 2025, near the intersection of State Road 46 and Mullet Lake Park Road near Geneva.According to FHP's report from the day of the crash, Babcock was driving a 2018 Ram 2500 pickup truck westbound on State Road 46 when she attempted to pass a 2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van in front of her. She observed a 2020 Cadillac XT6 in the eastbound lane and swerved back into her lane, troopers said. That caused Babcock's truck to hit the back of the van before veering into the eastbound lane and into the path of the SUV, according to the report.Neither Babcock nor the driver of the van was hurt, FHP said. However, a 68-year-old man from Cincinnati who was a passenger in the SUV was killed. The SUV's driver and two other passengers were taken to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital. Court documents show they were all from the same family.WESH 2 News obtained an investigative summary by FHP, which revealed that "EDR analysis showed was traveling at a sustained 104 miles per hour speed within 5 seconds of the collision."According to that same document, FHP investigators also determined that "according to own sworn statements and multiple statements of bystanders on scene, was being driven in a reckless and erratic manner at a high rate of speed, traveling west in the eastbound lanes, cutting in between vehicles, passing multiple vehicles at a time, and causing others to take evasive actions to avoid collisions."Jail records show Babcock has already bonded out of the Seminole County jail.
