Woman charged with speeding over 100 mph in deadly accident by Manhattan Bridge: District Attorney

Editor's note: The video presented above was shown in a previous broadcast. In Chinatown, Manhattan, a tragic incident occurred last month when a woman driving a stolen rental car at over 100 mph collided with a bicyclist and a woman on a bench near the Manhattan Bridge, resulting in their deaths. Prosecutors have charged Austin Romero, 23, and Kenedy Lecraft, 22, for their involvement in this fatal crash. The indictment on various charges stemmed from their alleged actions that led to the loss of Kevin Cruickshank and May Kwok on July 19. The NYPD Commissioner, Jessica S. Tisch, expressed condolences to the affected families, condemning the reckless behavior of Romero and Lecraft during what was described as a drunken joyride through Manhattan. The tragic incident occurred near Bowery and Canal, where the victims were fatally hit by the speeding stolen rental car. Both victims suffered fatal injuries at the scene. After the crash, Romero collided with an NYPD van, and despite attempting to access the car's trunk, both defendants fled the scene but were later apprehended. Authorities uncovered alcohol and firearms in the vehicle. District Attorney Alvin Bragg expressed determination to seek justice for the deceased victims and their loved ones, stating that accountability for those who endanger public safety while driving is crucial. Romero faces charges including murder, manslaughter, and possession of stolen property, while Lecraft faces charges relating to weapon possession and unauthorized vehicle use.
