Woman charged in hit-and-run after victim’s daughter fights for justice for a year

A woman in Columbus, Ohio, has been formally charged by a grand jury in connection to a fatal hit-and-run incident that took place in 2024. Dondra Hill was arraigned in court following the indictment, which was related to the crash that resulted in the death of Giancarlo Del Vita at the intersection of Cleveland and Chittenden Avenues. Surveillance footage obtained by NBC4 showed Hill driving a red vehicle that collided with Giancarlo before she failed to stop, briefly exited the car, and eventually left the scene. Columbus police outlined Hill's actions in their report, highlighting that she did not have a valid driver's license or insurance at the time of the crash. Hill now faces a charge of failing to stop after an accident, classified as a third-degree felony, with potential penalties including a fine of up to $10,000 and up to 5 years in prison if convicted. Currently maintaining a not guilty plea, she has been released on bond with certain restrictions. Giancarlo's daughter, Claire Del Vita, expressed relief at the indictment but acknowledged that the process is ongoing. She emphasized the importance of raising awareness about motorcycle safety and plans to continue being an advocate for her father and other motorcyclists moving forward.
