Woman charged after deadly accident in Dare County: Highway Patrol
A tragic incident occurred on Sunday morning in Dare County, North Carolina, leading to a fatal crash. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to reports of a two-vehicle collision on US-64 near East Lake. Following an investigation, it was determined that the driver of a Mercedes SUV, Tiffany Phillips, attempted to pass traffic by merging into the eastbound lanes while traveling westbound. This decision resulted in a head-on collision with a Toyota SUV driven by Callie Ann Coltrain Coward, who sadly died at the scene. Phillips faces charges of misdemeanor death by vehicle and reckless driving, and was airlifted to Norfolk General for treatment. One of Phillips's passengers was also flown to Vidant Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, while an 8-month-old infant in the vehicle did not sustain any injuries and was taken to The Outer Banks Hospital. The authorities are still investigating the incident.
