Woman arrested for fatal crash in southeast Austin
Austin Police have arrested a 21-year-old woman, Sonia Edith Ramos, in connection with a fatal accident that occurred on Labor Day. The incident took place on East Ben White Boulevard near Montopolis Drive. Ramos is facing charges of intoxication manslaughter. She was taken into custody following a two-vehicle collision in the eastbound lanes. Unfortunately, one of the passengers, Sheyla Alejandra Mascorro, lost her life in the crash. According to an arrest affidavit, Ramos disclosed that Mascorro was leaning out of the window dancing before the collision occurred. Ramos admitted to consuming two shots of vodka prior to the accident. This marks the 71st fatal crash in Austin for 2025, claiming a total of 75 lives. Investigations by the Austin Police Department are ongoing. When contacted for a response, Ramos' attorney declined to comment at this time.
