William Sawalich taken to nearby hospital following Talladega accident
During Saturday's NASCAR Xfinity race at Talladega Superspeedway, there were multiple significant incidents. A 12-car crash occurred at the end of Stage 1, leading to a red flag stoppage. Another multi-car crash took place near the end of Stage 2, resulting in another red flag situation. Following an earlier incident, a smaller pack of cars became four-wide, causing Leland Honeyman to collide with Connor Zilisch and ending Honeyman's impressive streak of 18 consecutive races with a top five finish. The wreck escalated as Connor Mosack was spun up the track and hit by both Dean Thompson and William Sawalich, with Blaine Perkins also caught up in the chaos. This six-car wreck occurred shortly before the end of Stage 2, prompting NASCAR officials to red flag the race to address track conditions in Turn 1. Sawalich, Thompson, and Mosack were unable to continue racing. Thompson and Mosack were released from the infield care center after evaluation, while Sawalich was taken to a local hospital for further assessment. Luckily, Sawalich is awake and alert, despite the severity of the impact that involved both him and Mosack.
