White SUV involved in two crashes minutes before deadly crash in La Grange, police say
WESTERN SPRINGS, Ill. - A Hinsdale couple was killed in a crash Friday at a busy intersection in La Grange, and WGN-TV has learned the SUV that crashed into the couple's vehicle had been involved in two prior accidents just minutes before in nearby Western Springs. On Friday, 51-year-old Brett Lane and 49-year-old Melissa Ann Lane were killed in a crash at the intersection of 47th Street and Willow Springs Road in La Grange. La Grange police said their investigation into the crash focused on the driver of a white SUV that was reportedly involved in two incidents in Western Springs leading up to Friday's crash. One possibility police are looking into is whether or not a medical emergency played a role in terms of the actions of the SUV's driver. Pastor Burke Masters of St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Parish in Hinsdale told WGN-TV he's devastated by the loss of Brett and Melissa, saying they were both longtime parishioners at his church. The couple leaves behind five mostly adult children, according to Masters. "It's been a horrible tragedy for our community," Masters said. "The church and the community has just rallied around them and they're just supporting them on this journey and there's not much you can do but walk the journey with them during this time of grief." Brett and Melissa were said to be fearless role models and met while they were graduate students at Northwestern University. Visitation will be held at Sullivan Funeral Home in Hinsdale from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral mass will be held at St. Isaac Jogues at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
