Westwood residents seek solutions for pedestrian safety after tragic accident.

Residents in Westwood are advocating for measures to enhance pedestrian safety following a recent tragic incident where a pedestrian, Gregory Napier, lost his life after being hit by a driver along Werk Road. This marks one of many unfortunate accidents that have occurred in the area. Greg Hand, a Westwood resident and president of the Westwood Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation, shared that traffic safety has become a major concern for the community, highlighted by 20 fatal or severe pedestrian-related accidents in Westwood last year. In response, Hand's group has collaborated with neighbors to develop a comprehensive plan aimed at improving the neighborhood's safety infrastructure. Among the proposed solutions are the incorporation of elevated crosswalks, rumble strips, and bike paths. Although some measures like additional crosswalks and speed cushions are in progress, Hand emphasized the urgency for more initiatives to create a safer environment for pedestrians. The Westwood Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation has formulated a detailed plan that will be reviewed by the Cincinnati City Council in the near future, encompassing various recommendations and strategies to bolster safety for pedestrians in and around the neighborhood. Hand expressed a strong desire to transform the community's surroundings to ensure pedestrians' safety is on par with that of vehicles.
