WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Westfield residents gathered earlier Saturday evening to support a local man who was paralyzed in a skiing accident. 28 -year-old Garrett Wheeler faced this life changing moement back in January. He is now paralyzed from the waist down and is facing a lifetime of mobility issues that require the use of a wheelchair. This event, "Groovin with Garrett," provided an opportunity for people to come together and show their support for Garrett and his family during this difficult time. "I'm fully focused on learning how to help him navigate with this new body and stay healthy in this new body. And i have this amazing team of community and friends who have just time and time again, pick up the ball and run with it and let me focus on what I need to focus on, which is taking care of Garrett," said Tanya Wheeler, Garrett's mom. All the funds raised will go toward Garrett's recovery, including expenses for adaptive equipment, home modifications, and long-term rehabilitation. If you'd like to show your support, you can donate to Garrett's GoFundMe.
