West Springfield police investigate second pedestrian struck on Riverdale Street

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A pedestrian was injured after being struck by a vehicle on Riverdale Street in West Springfield Friday, marking the second crash in the area within a four-day period. The West Springfield Police Department stated that at approximately 8:15 p.m. last Friday, officers were called to the intersection of Riverdale Street and Ashley Avenue following a 911 call of a crash involving a pedestrian. The victim, a 49-year-old man, was brought to Baystate Medical Center in an ambulance to be treated for injuries and is expected to recover. The driver of the involved vehicle is cooperating and investigators say that speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash. No charges have been filed at this time. The West Springfield Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team and the Hampden District Attorney's Office are investigating the crash. Last Tuesday, a pedestrian was also struck on Riverdale Street in front of the Donut Dip and was listed in critical condition. This incident is also under investigation.
