West Monroe police chief addresses probe into deadly pedestrian accident on N 7th Street

Authorities in West Monroe, Louisiana are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Monday evening, in which a juvenile driving a pickup truck struck and killed a pedestrian on North 7th Street near Short Jackson Street. The victim, David Anthony Garner, 59, passed away due to the injuries sustained in the accident. The incident took place before 6 p.m., with the young driver heading north on North 7th Street when the collision happened. While impairment is not suspected, the police gathered toxicology evidence. West Monroe Police Chief Jason Pleasant characterized the event as a "tragic accident" and emphasized the increased pedestrian activity in the area. Chief Pleasant advised both drivers to remain attentive and pedestrians to use designated walking paths and cross streets at intersections whenever possible.
