A man charged in a crash that killed three workers one year ago on I-83 in York County turned himself in Thursday. He was handcuffed and escorted from court by two Pennsylvania state troopers. Reed Davenport, a Maryland resident, was driving a 26,000-pound box truck that struck the workers in an active construction zone on April 17, 2024, police said.According to court documents, Davenport was under the influence of marijuana and had been awake for 24 hours at the time of the crash. He was driving over 60 mph and failed to apply the brakes before colliding with the construction vehicle, investigators said.Davenport faces several charges, including:Third-degree murder Reckless drivingDriving under the influenceThe three construction workers were employed by Crilon Corporation of Somerset. They were:Jesse McKenzie, 24, of SomersetRobert Hampe, 42, of MeyersdalePhilson Hinebaugh III, 24, of JohnstownIn the days after the crash, WGAL spoke to Robert Latham, the executive vice president of Associated Pennsylvania Constructors."It's sad to say there are accidents on 83 and 81 all the time. It's very rare when we see that in a construction zone. We kind of hold our breath, and the worst is what happened," he said.
