VIDEO: Sheriff’s deputy from Jefferson County collides with vehicle

Amber Voner, the mother of two individuals struck by an off-duty Jefferson County Sheriff's Office deputy accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, has shared her family's experience for the first time. The incident occurred on October 8 in Center Point when the deputy ran a red light and collided with a vehicle driven by Kayla Williams, 22, with her 15-year-old brother Nicholas in the back seat. Charges have been brought against the deputy, whose actions resulted in serious injuries to both siblings. Despite the extensive injuries sustained, Voner expressed relief that her children survived. A video of the crash obtained through investigative efforts reveals details of the incident. Voner highlighted the ongoing challenges her family faces with medical treatments and recovery, emphasizing the impact of the crash on her children's lives. Following the incident, the deputy was charged with two counts of first-degree assault and released on bond. Voner pointed out the lack of communication from the authorities following the accident and anticipates a challenging period ahead as her children continue their recovery journey. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and ALEA declined interview requests on the matter, and it was disclosed that the deputy is currently on administrative leave.
