Video: Kids injured after school bus crash in the Santa Cruz Mountains

The California Highway Patrol Santa Cruz said that they are investigating a crash involving a school bus in the Santa Cruz Mountains.The crash occurred on Monday morning near Vine Hill Road on southbound Highway 17 at around 9:50 a.m. CHP said a 67-year-old woman from San Jose was driving a blue Mini Cooper southbound on Highway 17 north of Vine Hill Road at an unknown speed.At the same time, a 66-year-old man from San Jose was driving a 2013 Blue Bird school bus with 24 children and one other adult southbound on Highway 17. For an unknown reason, the front of the Mini Cooper hit the rear of the school bus, per CHP.The Mini Cooper left the roadway and hit a tree. The driver suffered major injuries and was taken to Valley Medical Center.Two of the children suffered minor injuries and were not taken to the hospital. Both lanes have been reopened as of noon, per CHP.Drivers should expect heavy delays. CHP advises people to avoid the area if possible. The cause of the crash is under investigation. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol caused the crash. The Cupertino Union School District sent out a media statement saying, "Three CUSD buses were traveling to Science Camp. One CUSD bus was involved in a vehicle accident (it was rear-ended by another vehicle). No CUSD students or staff were injured.
