Video: Deputy from Jefferson County collides with vehicle

In Jefferson County, Alabama, a tragic incident occurred on October 8th involving an off-duty Jefferson County Sheriff's Office deputy who allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol, leading to a collision with a car driven by 22-year-old Kayla Williams and her 15-year-old brother Nicholas. In a recent interview with CBS 42, the mother of the siblings, Amber Voner, shared the impact of the crash on her family, expressing gratitude that her children survived but detailing the serious injuries they sustained. The deputy involved, Shamonte Lanfair, has since been charged with first-degree assault. A video captured the crash revealing the sheriff's vehicle running a red light without its siren on, narrowly avoiding a school bus before colliding with the siblings' car. Voner remains concerned about her children's recovery, with Kayla requiring additional surgeries and physical therapy. The investigation has revealed that Lanfair and other deputies were at a Pinson restaurant before the accident. While ALEA and the sheriff's office have not commented due to the ongoing investigation, Voner expressed disappointment in the lack of communication from authorities. Both the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and ALEA have declined interview requests about the crash, and Deputy Lanfair is currently on administrative leave.
