Victim of Bear Lake boating accident that resulted in legs being amputated saved by bystanders, officials confirm

BEAR LAKE COUNTY, Idaho (ABC4) — Officials have released additional details about a boating accident that resulted in a double amputation on Bear Lake, including that bystanders administered lifesaving first aid. On July 11, officers with the Bear Lake County Sheriff's Office (BLCSO) responded to Bear Lake for reports of boating accident. An individual had had both of their legs amputated and had to be life flighted from the scene. According to a recent update from BLCSO, the victim was tubing when she was struck by a boat propeller. They added that the boat that was towing the tube was the boat that struck the victim as well. BLCSO also shared a GoFundMe for the victim, which identifies her as a mother of three children. The fundraiser also states, "The road ahead will include continued medical care, rehabilitation, prosthetic limbs, home and vehicle modifications for accessibility, travel to and from the hospital, lodging near the hospital, lost income, childcare, and many unforeseen expenses." Officials also say that bystanders on the beach were able to apply tourniquets to the victim's injuries, which they say, "ultimately saved their life," while they were awaiting a medical helicopter. While officials have not publicly identified the victim, they have confirmed that she is now in stable condition and that her family is informed, and do not want to release any additional information. "Thank you again to all the involved bystanders who helped save the victim's life," BLCSO added. BLCSO also reportedly responded to several other emergency calls over the weekend, including a child locked in a car, a sinking boat with people on board, and a vehicle crash that resulted in severe injuries. The victim of the crash was life-flighted, and their current condition has not been released at this time.
