Victim identified in fatal motorcycle crash in Murray, investigation continues

MURRAY, Utah (ABC4) — The Murray Police Department is investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle and officially released the name of the motorcyclist killed. The motorcyclist has been identified as 26-year-old Francisco Contreras Villarreal. Just after 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday night, officers responded to an accident at 50 East and 5300 South. Investigations indicated Villarreal was traveling westbound on 5300 South when his motorcycle collided with a vehicle turning left onto Intermountain Drive. While original reports assumed he was not wearing a helmet, police now believe Villarreal was wearing a helmet that was recovered by officers a short distance from the impact. The driver of the passenger vehicle remained on scene and is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation. The driver's identity is not being released at this time. "The Murray Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Villarreal, as well as all those affected by this tragedy." As weather increasingly gets warmer, officials remind the public to remain vigilant, check blind spots regularly, and remain aware of surroundings to ensure safety of all roadway drivers.
