Vicksburg native dies in a car accident in Kansas
A tragic incident occurred in Douglas County, Kansas involving a former resident of Vicksburg. The fatal crash, a single-rollover accident, occurred on Friday evening just north of Lawrence. The victim, 22-year-old Benjamin Eddie Thomas Brooks, was a Warren Central High School graduate residing in Topeka, Kansas at the time. Brooks, who had served in the U.S. Army and worked in the electrical industry, leaves behind a wife and child. The crash involved a white Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck, where Brooks was ejected from the vehicle. First responders attempted to save his life but tragically, he did not survive. The local authorities are investigating the accident, with preliminary findings suggesting that the driver missed a curve and no other vehicles were involved.
