Vehicles crash on Ohio 101
MARGARETTA TWP. — Two people were injured as a result of a traffic crash on Ohio 101 in Margaretta Township on Thursday. Just after 5:30 p.m., first responders were called to Ohio 101 near the entrance of the Castalia Quarry MetroPark for the report of a two-vehicle collision. They arrived to find a pickup truck off the road to the north and a sedan off the road to the south, near a stone wall. Both drivers were removed from their vehicles and transported to Firelands Regional Medical Center. A medical helicopter was unavailable due to weather conditions at the time. The sedan's driver had to be cut from the vehicle using mechanical means. Ohio 101 was closed for about three hours while troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol investigated the crash. They could be seen taking measurements of the road, taking photographs of the scene and placing items from the sedan in evidence bags. Neither driver's current condition is known. Margaretta Township firefighters and EMTs were assisted by crews from Groton Township and Sandusky. Also assisting with securing the sight and traffic control were deputies from the Erie County Sheriff's Office.
