Vandalia teen dead, 2 others injured in crash in Pike County
PIKE COUNTY, Mo. - A Vandalia teenager was killed and others were injured in a crash Monday evening in Pike County. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), the incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. on Highway 54 east of Pike County Road 458. It involved a Chrysler PT Cruiser and a Cadillac XTS. Officials said the Chrysler was traveling westbound while the Cadillac was heading eastbound. According to MSHP, the driver of the Chrysler lost control after overcorrecting to the left, causing the vehicle to skid, cross the center line and strike the front of the Cadillac on the passenger side. A passenger inside the Chrysler, a 17-year-old teenager from Vandalia, was taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The driver of the Chrysler suffered serious injuries. The driver of the Cadillac sustained minor injuries. The driver and passenger in the Chrysler were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, MSHP said. The driver of the Cadillac was wearing a seatbelt.
