A van veered off the road and struck a group of pedestrians near the Fashion District in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon, injuring nine people. The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. at the entrance of Santee Alley on Maple Avenue and 12th Street, as reported by the Los Angeles Police Department. The cause of the crash is unknown and is currently being investigated. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the victims, which included three boys aged 8, 11, and 17, as well as women aged 54, 65, and 30, were taken to nearby hospitals in fair condition. Two 23-year-old women chose to leave against medical advice. Authorities do not suspect drugs or alcohol were involved, nor do they believe the crash was intentional. The Department of Transportation was called in to manage traffic in the area. Video footage shows the van on the sidewalk outside Santee Alley, having struck several K rails, resulting in some falling debris. The extent of possible building damage remains unclear.
