US stops issuing visas for truck drivers after deadly accident with Indian national
The U.S. government has decided to stop issuing worker visas for commercial truck drivers in an effort to address safety concerns and protect American truckers' jobs, according to Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The ban on visas is a response to the growing number of foreign truck drivers operating in the U.S., which has raised worries about road safety and job competition. President Trump recently signed an executive order requiring commercial drivers in the U.S. to meet English-proficiency standards. Following a fatal crash involving a non-English-speaking driver, an investigation was launched by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. The driver, Harjinder Singh, has been charged with three counts of vehicular homicide. These measures aim to enforce driver qualification standards and enhance road safety. It's important to note that a significant number of U.S. truck drivers are foreign-born, and efforts are being made to ensure compliance with the new regulations, including Mexican truck drivers studying English to meet the requirements.
