US 281 section shut down after fatal box truck collision with deputy vehicle

Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra reported that the deputy's vehicle was struck by the box truck while traveling northbound. Images from the scene depict severe damage, with the box truck overturned and the deputy's vehicle significantly impacted. The driver of the box truck sadly passed away in the incident, while the deputy sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. Traffic heading north on U.S. 281 is being rerouted to FM 186, with the Texas Department of Public Safety leading the investigation into the crash.
