UPDATE: Mobile police investigating deadly crash as homicide; man found with gunshot wound

UPDATE (5/21, 10 a.m.): Mobile Police Department officials have released new information about a crash that ended in a death Tuesday night. According to officials, the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash on the 1200 block of Woodland Avenue had a gunshot wound when police found him. The man had flipped his vehicle near Metals USA and had to be extracted from it. After he was extracted from the vehicle and the gunshot was found, MPD's Homicide Unit took over the case. Police said they will release the man's name once his next of kin are notified. PREVIOUS REPORTING MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A man was killed Tuesday night in a crash in Africatown. According to a Mobile Police Department spokesperson, the crash occurred around 8:10 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, on the 1200 block of Woodland Avenue between Telegraph and Papermill Roads. According to police, the man flipped his vehicle, and Mobile Fire-Rescue crews extracted him from the vehicle. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. A News 5 crew is on the scene.
