UPDATE: EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Two service members were killed and a third seriously injured in a crash Tuesday morning in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, according to U.S. Northern Command on behalf of Joint Task Force-Southern Border. The three service members were deployed to the U.S.-Mexico border as part of Joint Task Force-Southern Border. According to a news released issued by U.S. Northern Command, the three service members were involved in a crash about 8:50 a.m. MDT Tuesday. The names of the deceased will not be released until next of kin is notified. The injured service member remains in critical condition at a local hospital. The crash remains under investigation. In mid-March, U.S. Northern Command announced the activation of Joint Task Force-Southern Border "to tactically synchronize Department of Defense (DOD) efforts to secure and seal the southern border." _____________________________ ORIGINAL STORY: EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Three people were injured in a crash involving a military vehicle Tuesday morning on N.M. Highway 9, near the Santa Teresa Border Patrol Station, according to the Doña Ana County Sheriff's Office. The Fire Department says they responded to the crash just before 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 15 at mile marker 115, which is near the Santa Teresa Border Patrol Station. The Fire Department says three people were transported before they arrived at the scene. The Sheriff's Office says the three people were airlifted to a local hospital. The crash is currently under investigation. No further information has been released. N.M. Highway 9 runs mostly along the U.S.-Mexico border from Santa Teresa, New Mexico to the New Mexico-Arizona state line.
