Unique Sentence Given in DUI Crash Case

A judge in Nevada has issued an unusual sentence to Samantha Rapozo, who was involved in a car accident in December 2019 resulting in the death of her friend and injuries to several others while driving under the influence of marijuana. The crash happened as Rapozo was returning from Las Vegas with friends and collided with a pickup truck. The incident caused the death of one friend, Tera Dreelan, and injuries to five others, with one of them later passing away, possibly due to crash-related injuries. Rapozo expressed remorse during her recent sentencing where her attorney mentioned her deteriorating health condition after losing her frontal lobe in the crash. Despite struggling with the decision, Judge Kimberly Wanker ultimately sentenced Rapozo to probation instead of jail time, considering her health concerns. As part of her sentence, Rapozo must write apology letters to the victims, create a video presentation on the impact of her actions, give up her medical marijuana card, pay restitution of $205,000, and observe a 7 p.m. curfew during her probation period. The judge encouraged Rapozo to make use of her experience to create a positive impact by speaking at schools and service organizations to raise awareness and prevent similar tragedies.
