Union Pacific Police leads investigation into fatal train-pedestrian crash near I-5
A man believed to be in his early 50s was killed Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a train in southeast Salem. Officers responded at about 4:37 p.m. June 24, 2026, to a report of a train-versus-pedestrian crash at 4055 Turner Road SE. When officers arrived, they found the man dead. The train was traveling southbound on tracks beneath Interstate 5 and was unable to stop in time. The man’s identity had not been confirmed. Union Pacific Police has jurisdiction in the area and is leading the investigation. The investigation is ongoing, and further inquiries were directed to Union Pacific Police.
