Unidentified Victims in Fatal Troy Car Crash - KWKT

The identities of two individuals who tragically lost their lives in a fiery crash in Troy on Friday evening are not being publicly disclosed at this time as the investigation progresses. The incident involved a truck driver and an occupant of another vehicle, as confirmed by Troy Police Chief Jeremy Gooch. According to Chief Gooch, the events leading up to the crash are now clearer. On Friday night, just before 9:30 p.m., a Volvo truck tractor with a box trailer was traveling northbound on I-35 when, for reasons still being looked into, the truck and trailer veered off the right side of the road, traversed the grassy median, and then veered back towards the main lanes, ultimately colliding with the center barrier before entering the southbound lanes and causing a chain reaction of collisions resulting in fires. The incident also affected a second tractor-trailer nearby, which caught fire due to its proximity. Unfortunately, four vehicles in the southbound lanes were struck, leading to a fiery scene as spilled fuel ignited. Following the containment of the fires, emergency responders meticulously searched each vehicle, discovering one deceased individual in a Lexus SUV and another in the Volvo's cab. Autopsies are pending for both individuals. The northbound traffic on Interstate 35 resumed around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025, while the southbound lanes reopened by 8:00 a.m. The City of Troy expressed its deepest sympathies to all the affected families, with Chief Gooch emphasizing their commitment to honoring the privacy of the deceased individuals. He extended gratitude to various agencies, including the Temple Police Department, Bell County Sheriff Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Troy Volunteer Fire Department, Temple Fire & Rescue, Texas Department of Transportation, and Temple EMS Ambulances, for their support during this challenging time.
