Undocumented repeat DUI offender faces murder charges following deadly Yolo County collision
A man from Woodland who is in the country illegally and has a record of driving under the influence is facing murder charges after a fatal collision in Yolo County. The incident took place in the early hours of October 23 at the intersection of County Road 112 and County Road 17 in Woodland. Mario Navarro Dominguez, who was allegedly speeding and under the influence, ran a stop sign and collided with a vehicle carrying three members of the Vargas family from Knights Landing. Unfortunately, Estela Vargas, 70, who was driving the vehicle, was killed in the crash. Her husband and son also sustained serious injuries. Navarro Dominguez, with prior DUI convictions in Yolo County and a history of vehicular manslaughter charges in another state, was arraigned in court and pleaded not guilty to charges including DUI and murder. The Vargas family succeeded in keeping Navarro Dominguez behind bars as the legal proceedings continue. The community has come together to raise funds for Estela Vargas' funeral expenses. Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig emphasized the seriousness of the case, stating that justice will be sought for the victim's family. Navarro Dominguez is set for another court appearance on November 12 and could face life imprisonment if convicted.
