‘Uncooperative’ driver in Highway 37 crash dies at hospital

(KRON) -- A driver who was reportedly “uncooperative” with authorities after crashing his BMW overnight Friday in Solano County went unconscious and was later pronounced deceased at the hospital, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP Solano Area officers responded at 12:25 a.m. to eastbound Highway 37, west of Skaggs Island Road, on the reports of a solo vehicle crash. A 2006 BMW sedan was found in the marsh down an embankment with a male driver inside, authorities said. Officers made contact with the driver, but he “refused to exit the BMW and began making furtive movements,” CHP said. Authorities backed away from the driver inside his vehicle. Additional officers and personnel with the Vallejo Police Department and Solano County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene. Law enforcement again approached the vehicle, where “it was discovered the driver wasn’t moving and appeared unconscious,” CHP said. The driver, who remained unidentified as of Friday morning, was transported to an area hospital and pronounced deceased. Officials did not say if the driver sustained injuries in the collision. The cause of death has not been determined. The Solano County District Attorney’s Office and CHP Golden Gate Division Critical Incident Investigation Team are investigating.
