UN spokesperson says Trump escalator mishap was unintentional

An incident involving President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump on an escalator at the United Nations has been deemed an accident by the U.N. President Trump made light of the escalator incident during his U.N. speech, joking about it later with the U.N. secretary general. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt speculated that the escalator stall may have been intentional as retaliation for Trump's criticism of the U.N. However, a U.N. spokesperson explained that a safety trigger likely caused the escalator to stop suddenly while a videographer from the U.S. delegation was on it ahead of the President and First Lady. President Trump's speech at the U.N. General Assembly included criticism of European countries' migration policies and accusations against the U.N. regarding funding for illegal immigrants. The Trump administration also announced plans to create an AI system to enforce the U.N.'s Biological Weapons Convention.
